On July 5, K Armstrong, a prominent leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Tamil Nadu, was brutally murdered by people disguised as food distribution agency. He was the state leader of the BSP and was known to be part of the Ambedkarite Buddhist movement. He said that the foundation of education would also be laid in the state.

He was attacked by a group of four men dressed as food distribution officials and attacked with country-made bombs near the house of his supporters. According to TheNEWSMinute, he was usually surrounded by ten to fifteen people, but when the attack happened, he had only two people with him. He had also left his gun at home, which he usually carried for protection.

He was bleeding profusely from the serious wounds and was taken to the emergency room, where the doctor declared him dead. The Madras High Court has allowed the burial of the body of slain BSP leader and advocate K Armstrong on the private land of one of his relatives in Tiruvallur district. The police have admitted that Armstrong’s murder was a retaliatory action linked to the murder of Arcot Suresh in August last year. However, Armstrong’s followers and the BSP suspect a deeper conspiracy.

It has been alleged that those who appeared in the films and those who were arrested were different. The police have disproved this claim, saying that they used mobile triangulation to trace the movements of the attackers. Several political leaders have also spoken about this brutal case of murder.

Rahul Gandhi said,

“The brutal and infamous murder of Thiru Armstrong, the head of the Bahujan Samaj Party of Tamil Nadu, has come as a deep shock. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and followers.”

The all-India leader demanded a CBI inquiry and accused the Tamil Nadu government of being lax in the investigation. The demand for a probe by the CBI underlines the distrust in the current state of the case and highlights the need for justice among the opposition and the opposition.

Another prominent Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad also condemned the murder and demanded a CBI inquiry. He said the focus has been on the need to protect leaders who protect the rights of the people.

In response to the criticism, the Chennai police arrested people and seized evidence related to the crime, including a Zomato T-shirt, a Zomato bag, three bikes and seven blood-stained sickles. However, the transfer of the Chennai Police Commissioner soon after Armstrong’s murder further fuelled suspicion and calls for an independent investigation.
