The SDMC chairman assaulted Dalit anganwadi worker at Aloor village in Kalaburagi district.

Attack by the chairman of the School Development and Monitoring committee (SDMC) to a Dalit anganwadi worker in Aloor village, Jewargi taluk, Kalaburagi district, has been denounced by the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti.

As reported by samati state convener Arjun Bhandre, who spoke to reporters on Thursday that Dalit women Sampathi Bai, was brutally beaten by chairman f SDMC Mallapan Natikar on Monday.

There are two anganwadi centres in Aloor Village. Ms. Sampatthi Bai, who was working at an anganwadi center in Dalit locality in Aloor village, was assigned extra duty for anganwadi center – 2, which is located in a non-Dalit area following Devakkama Joshi retired on 31st December 2023.

Shanta Bai, working in the same anganwadi center, signed her attendance after missing for 15 days of work ( September 3, 2024 to September 18, 2024).

Ms Shanta Bai reported this to Mr. Natikar and thereafter Ms. Sampathi Bai saw and objected to her taking eggs and other nutritions to her home. Mr. Natikar stormed into the anganwadi center on Monday and abused Ms. Sampathi Bai , used bad words towards Sampathi Bai that insulted and defame her.

Mr. Natikar thrashed and assaulted her close to the bus stop while she was on her way to file a complaint to the police station against him.

Said by Ms. Sampatthi Bai , the police had only filed a complaint with minor charges against Mr. Natikar and failed to mention Ms Shanta Bai’s name in the complaint.

She sobbed as she said that Ms. Shanta Bai was the main culprit for the entire incident and that she had been humiliated by both Mr. Natikar and Ms. Shanta Bai.

A delegation will meet with Home Minister G. Parameshwara urged that he address the growing atrocities against Dalits in the State, according to the samiti.
