BSP supremo Mayawati termed Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Ambedkar as an insult to Baba Saheb and demanded that he retract his words. She accused the Congress of erasing Ambedkar’s contributions and said that both parties are deceiving Dalits. Mayawati urged Ambedkar’s followers to join the BSP to strengthen the fight for social justice.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement in Parliament about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has sparked a political uproar. Shah remarked, “Taking Ambedkar’s name has become a fashion. If people took God’s name as much, they’d secure heaven for seven lifetimes.” This comment drew sharp criticism from the opposition, particularly from BSP supremo Mayawati, who described it as an insult to Dr. Ambedkar’s honor and contributions. She demanded an immediate retraction, stating that such remarks deeply hurt Ambedkar’s followers and tarnish his dignity.
Serious Allegations Against Congress
Mayawati didn’t just criticize the BJP but also took aim at the Congress. She alleged that the Congress, too, tried to erase Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy after his demise. She stated that if Congress had implemented the Constitution properly, it wouldn’t need to change its policies, approach, and character today. She accused the Congress of conspiring to erase Ambedkar’s name from history, a plan that was thwarted only due to the efforts of Kanshi Ram and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Acknowledging Kanshi Ram and BSP’s Struggles
Mayawati emphasized the role of Kanshi Ram and the BSP in preserving Ambedkar’s ideals. She remarked that if Kanshi Ram hadn’t dedicated his life to completing Ambedkar’s unfinished work, the Congress might have succeeded in its intentions. She credited Kanshi Ram for establishing the BSP to carry forward Ambedkar’s struggles, accusing both Congress and BJP of conspiring to weaken the party. She reiterated her own commitment to realizing Ambedkar’s dreams.
Criticism of BJP’s “Symbolic Politics”
Mayawati lambasted the BJP, accusing it of invoking Ambedkar’s name merely for electoral gains. She claimed that BJP’s respect for Ambedkar is superficial and aimed at vote bank politics. She warned Ambedkar’s followers to be cautious of the deceit and conspiracies of such parties and urged them to support the BSP in establishing Ambedkar’s ideals across the nation.
Congress and BJP’s Role Against the Constitution and Bahujan Society
Mayawati accused both the Congress and BJP of undermining the spirit of the Constitution. She argued that if the Congress had faithfully implemented the Constitution, the country would have a more equitable and just environment today. Instead, the Congress marginalized Dalits and the underprivileged. She further alleged that the BJP has used Ambedkar’s name for power but never adopted his principles.
BSP’s Call for Action
Mayawati asserted that Ambedkar’s followers would no longer fall for the tactics of Congress and BJP. She appealed to Dalits, backward classes, and marginalized groups to unite under the BSP and consolidate their strength. She condemned the power tussles over Ambedkar’s name in Parliament, emphasizing that it’s time for the underprivileged to recognize their political power and teach a lesson to those who dare insult Ambedkar.
