In Gonda, UP, a man was recently arrested for raping a 25-year-old Dalit woman and allegedly forcing her to convert to Islam.

Taj Mohammad, a man from Uttar Pradesh, has been accused and arrested for raping a 25-year-old woman under the guise of marriage. Allegedly, he was forcing her to convert to Islam as well. The first incident took place last year, and the victim was threatened with physical harm if she reported the incident to anyone.

The Dalit victim did file a complaint with the police, who then filed an FIR against the man under charges of rape (376 IPC), along with sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and UP Anti-Conversion law.
The Additional Superintendent of Police, Manoj Kumar Rawat, stated that “The woman in her complaint has accused one Taj Mohammed of raping her on the pretext of marriage and converting her to Islam forcibly,” and that he also yelled casteist slurs at her recently.
The man has since then been taken into custody and an investigation is underway.
